If I could have as much money as I wanted, I would set up a foundation, build, and support schools who would help underprivileged kids around the world, giving them the opportunity to succeed in life. For about twenty years Dennis and I have supported such a school in Mexico and visit it when we go down to Puerto Vallarta. These children go to their regular schools and come for after-school programs. This is the one we support:
Our mission
The Delia Morán Vidanta Foundation is committed to creating a world in which children have the support needed to reach their true potential. Through extracurricular programs and services, we help underprivileged children from Riviera Nayarit and the surrounding communities overcome barriers and prepare them for a future built on equal opportunity.
Academic programs
Between the ages of 6 to 12, children experience significant changes in their interests, personalities, and understanding of the world. It is during this critical stage that children develop the cognitive and social skills that will carry over into adulthood. The Delia Morán Vidanta Foundation provides a wide variety of academic classes to aid their development through adolescence and beyond. Our Academic Programs include: English, Math, Computers & Technology, Nutrition, Creative Thinking Skills, Emotional Intelligence, Active Reading, Entrepreneurship, Homework & Tutoring
Athletic programs
Sports play an important role in a child’s socialization skill development. The Delia Morán Vidanta Foundation offers athletic programs that help students develop confidence and motor skills in a safe environment. We work to provide life tools that generate feelings of happiness while maintaining physical and mental health. Our Athletic Programs include: Swimming, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Martial Arts, Table Tennis, Recreational Activities
Art programs
Creativity, sensitivity, and the ability to appreciate beauty are only some of ways art benefits us as human beings. It is through art that we can express our unique inner self while learning to create, critique, and appreciate. The Delia Morán Vidanta Foundation offers art programs intended to develop each student’s knowledge of movement, sound, silence, point of view, colors, bodies, and aesthetics. Our Art Programs include: Introduction to Music, Guitar, Keyboard and Percussion, Fiddle, Corals, Sets, Musical Ensembles, Introduction to Dance, Jazz, Latin Rhythms, Dance, Ensembles, Ballroom Dancing, World Dance, Circus Arts, Stage Creation, Theater, Drawing and Painting
I would add the spiritual training also. It would be important to oversee these schools, making sure they were in a safe, healthy, secure, caring environment. I would also add the agricultural dimension, establishing a farm where the students could learn to grow their own food, fruit and vegetables. I would also give them the opportunity to learn various trades which could be a career or a side income or hobby.
That is what I would do if I had as much money as I wanted!
